It was an amazing game of cricket as Delhi Capitals edged past Sunrisers Hyderabad in a Super Over played at the M Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Sunday.
Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to bat first. Prithvi Shaw looked in blazing form right from the word go putting pressure on SRH pacers. Kedar Jadhav dropped a chance to get rid of Dhawan. Shaw played with intent hitting boundaries making life tough for SRH. At the end of the first six overs, Delhi Capitals made 51 for 0. With that, the first timeout was called.
After the timeout, there was some tight bowling by SRH bowlers not allowing Dhawan and Shaw to score runs easily. Rashid Khan made the breakthrough for SRH getting the wicket of Dhawan who came down the track but was bowled. Delhi Capitals laid a strong foundation putting on 81 runs. On the other hand, Shaw completed fifty off 35 balls.
Shaw was unfortunately run out as Bairstow missed a stumping chance but a good throw by Khaleel Ahmed and good pickup by Suchith put brakes on DC. SRH fielding was not up to the mark as they dropped catches. Pant and Smith were given one reprieve each. At the end of the second timeout, DC made 114 for 2.
Despite some good boundaries, Delhi Capitals could not score at a quick pace. Siddarth Kaul proved his worth by picking wickets of Pant and Hetymer in the 19th over. Pant and Smith added 58 runs for the 3rd wicket. Steve Smith hit some vital runs to help Delhi Capitals post 159 for 4 in 20 overs.
Chasing down 160 runs to win, Jonny Bairstow looked in sensational form right from the word go putting pressure on Delhi Capitals bowlers. Bairstow was given out by the umpire and the decision was overturned to not out. SRH captain Warner was run out in a mix-up. Bairstow showed his class keeping on hitting boundaries at will. Avesh Khan dismissed the dangerous Bairstow providing an easy catch to Dhawan. At the end of the six overs, SRH made 56 for 2.
Kiwi captain Kane Williamson looked in great touch taking on Amit Mishra and Co. On the other hand, Virat Singh struggled with his timing. At the end of the first timeout, SRH scored 72 for 2.
After the timeout, Delhi Capitals put a lid on the SRH batting line-up. On the other hand, Williamson looked cool with his timing. Kedar Jadhav could not contribute many runs. SRH ended the 2nd timeout at 117 for 4.
Axar Patel dismissed Abishek Sharma and Rashid Khan off successive deliveries to mount immense pressure on SRH. Kane Williamson remained composed reaching fifty off 42 balls. The task looked tough as other SRH batsmen struggled to time the ball.
J Suchith impressed with his stroke play hitting a boundary. With 16 runs required off 6 balls, Williamson hit a boundary before Suchith smashed Rabada for a six to make the equation in favor of SRH. Rabada held his nerves to make it into the Super Over.
Axar Patel bowled a brilliant Super Over conceding only 1 boundary giving away 7 runs by Williamson. In reply, Pant also smacked a boundary off Rashid Khan. The match went down the wire with 1 required off 1 ball, Dhawan and Pant took a leg bye to help Delhi Capitals win a thriller.
